About EcoArt

EcoArt has rescued thousands of pieces of plastic waste, hosted dynamic workshops, and partnered with communities to turn discarded plastics into beautiful, meaningful art. Through engaging education, hands-on creativity, and community action, we’re on a mission to inspire a global rethinking of how we see and handle plastic waste. Together, we can re-imagine recycling!
Founder's Story
EcoArt was founded in 2022 by Sara Laurin as an inspired and creative response to the plastic waste crisis. During a particularly long rainy season, as she walked along the Guanacaste coastline, Sara was struck by the overwhelming amount of plastic debris washing ashore. As a creative and determined to make a difference, she began transforming the microplastics she collected into mosaics. With heartfelt encouragement from friends and family, this simple act of creativity blossomed into a transformative mission. You will find Sara spending her mornings rescuing microplastics, and her days researching start-ups and innovators who are creating the new plastic circular economy. It is her hope that future generations will be shocked that in the past we just threw away our plastic waste. She dreams of a plastic revolution.
